pink pancakes in my boot

So remember THIS post? (It was only 2 days ago). And how it ended with 'What should we do tomorrow?'

Ya, well you'll never guess how we topped off that interesting day.

Yesterday, we went to a Stampede breakfast and got absolutely POURED on. I'm talking the sky opened up and dumped every drop of H2O it could find on

us, the poor schmucks waiting in line for pink pancakes. They were pink for breast cancer but not only pink. Soggy and pink.

We were the first group in line and they literally had JUST opened the lineups and it started to pour. I didn't want to miss getting breakfast, we were thisclose to getting it! But the pancakes weren't quite ready yet, plus the water was dripping ON the griddles so the pancakes that were almost done were getting soggy. They had to toss those. I lost my sis and her family and my parents with two of my kids. They had made it to shelter after getting rain soaked. It was just my little one and me in line, getting drenched. We had umbrellas but I couldn't hold plates, cutlery, juice, my backpack AND the umbrellas so I had to take the umbrellas down.

I found out later one of my girls lost her pancakes, I think her plate was so soaked, it collapsed. My parents didn't even get their breakfast because the griddle in their line wasn't working or something.

What a train wreck!

But we ended up with enough pink pancakes and sausages to feed our whole group and we headed for the mall (the breakfast was in the mall parking lot). We eventually went to buy some hot drinks and found a bunch of other family in the food court. They gave up and bought breakfast. Smart people.

And to top it off, when my daughter took off her boot, she had a flattened piece of pink pancake inside it.

25 random things

As I get comfy here in this vast blogaverse, I realize that I have not shared much about myself with you all. I read so many of your blogs and blog-hop (one of my favourite past-times) and I love how open and sharing you all are of your lives, hopes, dreams, frustrations and your most personal thoughts.

I've always found it difficult to open myself up to people and totally trust them. I guess it's the fear of getting hurt. But I so appreciate the time you take to visit my blog so I am going to give a little back and put out some random, and not so random facts about myself. I hope you enjoy and even do one on your own blog, leave me a comment or send me an email and link to your blog so we can get to know each other a little better.

Ok, here goes!

1. My name is Sheri, nice to meet you!

2. I feel like there are 3 people in my life that have made me a better, more confident person. My hubby, my sister and my friend Dusty. There are so many qualities I admire in each of you, qualities I want in myself and I aspire to everyday. Thank each of you for being you. You have made a difference in my life.

3. My first day of University, I vowed to speak to at least one person in each of my classes to get over my shyness. It worked. (Well, I'm still a bit shy in big groups)

4. It scares me how much I love my kids. I don't know how I would survive without them.

5. I have to brush my teeth before I shower in the morning, I hate having morning breath while I shower.

6. I love to journal. I have probably 7 journals on the go right now. One for each of my kids (that would be 3), one for my own personal thoughts, one for gardening, one for organizing my day to day life, one is a travel journal. Ok, I have more than 7....

7. I am obsessed with lists. It's scary how good it makes me feel to check something off a list.

8. I have twin girls that were born through invitro fertilization. My youngest girl was made the natural way. Go figure.

9. Is it possible to be in love with a piece of technology? I ♥ my laptop. Like really, i LOVE it!!

10. One of my life's dreams is to write a children's book with my sister and turn it into a successful series of books. We have ideas...

11. I want and love to travel, yet I am scared to travel to foreign places.

12. I love the movie Legally Blonde, I never get tired of watching it.

13. I am 38 years old but I feel 25 inside.

14. I am SO proud to be Canadian but I wish that we could throw a party like the 4th of July.

15. I love pickled eggs but only my Dad's recipe.

16. I secretly wish I could shop every single day. Ok, its no secret, really. As a teenager and young adult, I wanted to save, save, save my money. Now I just want to spend it on clothes and things for my house and it's a struggle to control myself.

17. I have watched Days of our Lives since I was a teenager.

18. I used to ride the school bus to high school and secretly wish I was on my way to work in Hollywood on some fabulous hit tv show.

19. I hate phoning people. I should clarify, I hate phoning people I don't know. I would rather meet with someone face to face or email them rather than pick up the phone. It gives me stress, I literally will lose sleep over anticipating having to phone someone. I'm getting better as I get older.

20. I really, really regret ripping up my little sister's drawings to me in fits of anger when we were kids. It makes me cry to think of that to this day.

21. I wish I was good at sports but I was good at academics.

22. I love Keith Urban. If we are going to be friends you need to know this about me.

23. I secretly wish to be and would love to meet JLo or Beyonce. Being a rockstar would be supercool.

24. I hate when people make fun of other people for things they like. If my kid worships Justin Bieber, let her.

25. I could eat nachos and cheese everyday. Forever.

Well, that was fun! I could have gone on and on. I'll save it for another

day! Can't spill ALL my secrets at once. ; )

the path to fun is not a straight line

Sometimes the path to a fun day takes lots of twists and turns. Not all fun ones either.

So today we were going to go to a local amusement park, myself, my mom and my 3 girls. The forecast was calling for rain on and off all day. We decided we better change our plans to something indoors.

Perfect day for bowling!

We found the nearest place and decided to get there right when it opened, just after lunchtime. It won't be busy yet, right!?

On our way to pick up my Mom, I get a flat tire. I have never experienced a flat before. Luckily we were ok and it went totally flat right when we got to my parents house. I didn't know that if my vehicle starts to veer to one side that I should be pulling over because that indicates a flat. Ok. Noted.

Luckily my Dad was home and he changed it for me. Yay, thanks Dad! We are back on track.

So by now, we are a bit behind schedule. No problem, off to the bowling alley at the mall!

We get there and end up in line behind a giant tour bus full of teenagers. The bowling lanes are full for the next 4 hours.

Ok, Plan B. Or is it Plan C by now (amusement park off, flat tire fixed, bowling off).

We are in a mall where there are theaters. Off to the theaters we go to see if there is anything playing that is appropriate for 2 adults, two 7 year olds and a 5 year old.

Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D starting in 45 minutes. Perfect! Got our tickets, got our food, got our cool 3D glasses.

We made it! We took the loooonnnnng way here, but we ended up having lots of fun.

By the way, if you haven't seen Kung Fu Panda 2, it's good. Especially in 3D! I ♥ Jack Black.

Oh and the forecast for today? Wrong. It ended up being sunny most of the day. Plan A (amusement park, in case you are now lost) would have worked.

Whew, I'm exhausted. What should we do tomorrow?

The Rescuing Hug

Since I have twin girls myself, this photo made my heart flutter. I saw this on Marvelous Kiddo's Blog. How sweet is this... ♥

This picture is from an article called the “RESCUING HUG”

The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Apparently each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two, threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby’s heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal.

Seriously Summer

Royal Visit and Pancakes

So we here in Canada have had a thrilling few days with the visit of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge or as I like to call them, Will and Kate. Because, well...it's just quicker to say and easier to type. ; ) I think they'd be fine with that.

They even visited the very city that I LIVE in! I, like many people around the world, have fallen for their charming ways and was thrilled that I caught a glimpse of them. Well, her.

And here it is....

Yep, it was quick. But so thrilling!

My sister and her 2 kids and myself and my 3 kids, got up at 4am. That's right peeps, 4am! We already had plans to attend the parade but when we found out Will and Kate would be there as well, we figured we needed to leave extra early to beat the crowds. Downtown at 5:30 am and ALREADY so busy! It was worth it though.

My 5 year old said to me 'Mommy, Kate smiled and waved at me!' Who am I to tell her otherwise?! : )

I watched a lot of the coverage of

their visit, she sure has style. And Will is pretty cute too.

My favourite outfits were her gorgeous Canada Day dress, also worn in her engagement photo and the purple dress she wore Canada Day evening. LOVE!

The Maple Leaf brooch borrowed from the Queen is stunning.

So now they have left Canada and we are left with our annual Stampede and free pancake breakfasts of which I will be partaking. A few anyway. That means lots and lots of pancakes!

For those of you unfamiliar with the Stampede, you can eat free breakfasts around the city every day of the 10 day Stampede! As well as head down to the Stampede grounds for loads of fun. After 10 days, I'll be done with pancakes until at least Christmas. : )

School's Out! Summer's Here!

Today was the last day of school. Summer vacation! I remember last days of school, being SO excited to stay up late, playing outside until after ten o'clock and it was still light out but getting a bit chilly. Who needs a sweater? The dew felt good! Doing handstands on the front lawn with my sister and waving to cars as they go by to see who would wave back. Playing with my friends, riding my bike to the park, going on vacation in my Grandma and Grandpa's motorhome, playing hide and go seek with the kids on our block and we used the ENTIRE block so it was harder to find everyone.

The summer seemed ohhh so long. Heavenly. Now summer is about figuring out how to keep the kids entertained and before we know it, it's time to start back-to-school shopping. Oh boy, sorry I said THAT! Let's not think about that today! Today is about a summer that awaits us, playing in the sprinklers, going to the park, riding bikes, amusement parks, camping, crafts and movies on rainy days and just generally hanging with my girls. I am not working this summer for the first time in forever so I actually get to spend the summer reliving those days through the eyes of my girls. I can't wait!
